Inspired by Ward’s upbringing on a rugged wind-swept farm, these works explore the degradation of terrain through migrations and histories. Alongside this is a deterioration/dispersement of language, or how it seems to fall away over time, refracted through different waves of settlement and displacement - the echo of this human presence shaped within the soil, the very remnants of their words worn away by weather, dissembled by memory, scarred and seared within landscape and experience, re-emerging in different form or, as in some instances, leaving no trace at all.
